Neil Marrinan, DVM Veterinarian

Neil Marrinan, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Neil has always wanted to be a veterinarian. He studied history as an undergraduate at the Honors College of Michigan State University where he was a National Merit Scholar, and graduated from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  His classmates chose him for the Dr. Robert B. Ziegler Caring Award at graduation.  He has special interests in pain relief (analgesia/anesthesia) and oncology. Before opening the Old Lyme Veterinary Hospital, he was an ER vet at regional 24-hour trauma centers, practiced at a cat specialty hospital, and spent ten years in companion animal practice in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. When he's not at the hospital, he is usually chasing kids around to soccer games or 4-H chicken shows.

Dr. Alice has a degree in biology from Kalamazoo College and earned her DVM at Michigan State.  While in veterinary school, Dr. Alice worked in thyroid research and became interested in endocrinology and reproduction.  She is also particularly interested in rabbit medicine, and has been a trusted small animal veterinarian for more than 20 years.  In her spare time, Dr. Alice enjoys being a 4-H leader, gardening, and riding horses.  The Marrinans have 3 children, 2 dogs, 4 horses, 5 chickens.  So Dr. Alice doesn't really have any spare time after all!

Board Certified Surgeon

Dr. Steven J. Heyman grew up in NY and followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a surgeon, although his father’s patients walked on only two legs. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1983, where he majored in the Biological Basis of Behavior. He graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. He attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude in 1987. He was selected for admission to the Society of Phi Zeta, the national veterinary honor society. Upon completion of his residency, Steve moved to Connecticut  where he joined the staff of a large referral practice. Yearning to expand the surgical options for veterinarians and pet owners in Connecticut, Steve ventured out on his own in 1994 to start Surgical Care Specialists. “I understand the relationships between clients, their pets, generalists, and specialists, and by providing mobile surgical services, I am able to offer advanced surgical care while strengthening those relationships.”
